White Rice Alternative
For this white rice and corn recipe, we’re using Chico Rice Blonde California Milled rice.
Though it’s not a white rice, which is commonly used in Arroz con Maiz, this Blonde rice has the texture and taste of white rice and the nutritional benefits of brown rice.
This rice has the best of both worlds because of its unique milling style called haiga-mai. This process does not fully remove the outer bran layer, which is where most of the nutritional value is located.
Our rice is sustainably grown in Northern California's Sacramento Valley, ensuring the highest quality and exceptional taste. We mill our rice in small batches at our Artisan Rice Mill to maintain peak freshness.
Once milled, our rice is promptly packaged and delivered to our customers, guaranteeing a fresh and flavorful product every time.
Chico Rice Blonde has a slight blonde color to the rice and also a nutty savory flavor, making it a perfect white rice alternative for white rice with corn.
Cooking Tips
To make this cooking process easier here are some helpful tips to keep in mind when you start cooking your rice and corn recipe.
Rinse the Rice: Rinsing Chico Rice Blonde California Milled rice under cold water until the water runs clear removes excess starch and prevents the rice from becoming sticky.
This step is crucial when making white rice with corn so that the rice is not too sticky when all the ingredients are combined.
One Pot Rice Recipe: This one pot rice recipe is a great way to minimizes cleanup and enhance the flavors of the white rice and corn by allowing all the ingredients to meld together.
Using a heavy-bottomed pot helps to distribute heat evenly, cooking the rice without burning or sticking.
Adding the corn to the pot after toasting the rice but before adding the liquid helps to lightly cook the corn and enhance its sweetness.
Toast the Rice: Toasting the rice in oil or butter before adding the liquid helps to develop a deeper flavor.
The toasting brings out the nutty flavors in the rice and helps to create a firmer texture that holds up well when cooked with the corn.
Dietary Alternatives: White rice with corn can easily be adapted to meet various dietary needs.
For a vegan version, use vegetable broth instead of chicken broth and opt for olive oil instead of butter.
For those who are gluten free or gluten sensitive, this rice and corn recipe is naturally gluten free.
Additionally, you can substitute Chico Rice Blonde California Milled rice with our Brown California Milled rice for a more nutritious option. If you do switch the rice, make sure you alter the recipe and instruction for a longer cooking time and more liquid.
